The Present: Rebuilding the Village Mindset
Today, Edmondson Village stands at a turning point. New redevelopment efforts, community investment, and local leadership are bringing fresh energy back into the neighborhood — including revitalization of the historic shopping center and renewed focus on local ownership and opportunity.
It comes from people.
A Community Built With Vision
1940s – 1960s
Edmondson Village, located in Southwest Baltimore, was developed during a time when the city was expanding with purpose and pride. In 1947, the Edmondson Village Shopping Center opened as one of the first planned shopping centers designed for convenience, accessibility, and community connection. The neighborhood itself was built with intention — tree-lined streets, connected communities, and a shared vision of beauty and order. Green spaces, row homes, and local businesses created a place where people didn't just live — they belonged. Families knew each other. Neighbors took pride in their homes. The standard was set early: take care of your space, take care of your community.
Transition, Resilience & Identity
1960s – 2000s
Like many urban communities across America, Edmondson Village experienced rapid change. Between the 1950s and 1960s, the neighborhood underwent a major demographic shift due to practices like blockbusting, transforming the community almost overnight. But what remained constant was the people. Despite economic challenges and disinvestment over the years, residents continued to build lives, raise families, and hold onto the foundation of community. The homes, the blocks, and the spirit of Edmondson Village endured.
Our
Community Services
Here are some initiatives that the EVNBA has undertaken for and within the community.
Block Cleanups
Program helps residents restore pride to their streets by removing dump sites, clearing vacant lots, and cleaning blighted areas. When you hire our Association, we coordinate the manpower and place community dumpsters so everyone can dispose of bulk trash safely and legally. To schedule a clean-up or request a dumpster location for your block, contact us to coordinate your area today.
Youth Enagement
Our work focuses on giving Edmondson Village youth a safe daily space where they can eat, complete homework, build life skills, and receive consistent mentorship rooted in integrity, balance, respect, wellness, and nutrition. We assess each child’s behavioral and therapeutic needs to address the real traumas our young people face and to guide them toward stability and hope. By meeting their basic needs and providing structure, support, and resources, we are strengthening families, reducing community barriers, and creating a clear path to a healthier, unified Edmondson Village.
Senior Check-Program
Ensures that every elder and vulnerable neighbor in Edmondson Village is known, located, and routinely supported through regular wellness checks. We assign caring community members to each senior to assist with daily needs, monitor their well-being, and provide a reliable point of contact for help or resources. This program strengthens safety, connection, and dignity for our elders while building a community culture where no senior is overlooked, unheard, or unsupporte
Not Just Cutting Grass — Restoring Identity
At the Edmondson Village Neighborhood Beautification Association (EVNBA), we are not just cutting grass — we are restoring identity. This is about bringing back the “Village” mindset — where pride is shared, standards are visible, and beauty is a collective responsibility.
We Believe
Every block deserves to look cared for
Every resident deserves to feel ownership
Every neighborhood can return to its original vision
We’re not just maintaining properties. We’re rebuilding culture.

Upcoming Community Initiative
Whether you are a resident, a partner, or a supporter, there is a place for you here.
Together, we are not just improving our neighborhood we are redefining what community truly means.
Phase 1
BRINGING NEIGHBORS BACK TOGETHER.
We work to bridge the gap between community members and the organizations that serve them, creating open lines of communication and restoring a sense of unity.
Through engagement, outreach, and consistent presence, we encourage neighbors to speak, support one another, and function once again as a connected community.
This phase is about visibility, trust, and conversation-becaus everything begins when people fee an and heard.
Phase 2
SAFE SPACES & SHARED RESOURCES
Once connection is restored, we expand into creating safe, trusted environments for growth and support.
By partnering with local churches and recreation centers, we establish spaces where community members—especially the most vulnerable—can gather without judgment. These spaces become hubs for :
-Open dialogue
– Resource sharing
– Mental health support and therapy access
– Personal and collective growth
Phase 3
EXPANSION & OPPORTUNITY
With a strong internal foundation, we extend our model outward.
Our goal is to replicate this community-driven system in neighborhoods, cities, and communities everywhere—creating opportunities for growth, leadership, and ownership, especially among our youth. We are building more than a program—we are creating a scalable framework that allows every community to:
-Develop its own leaders
– Strengthen its own relationships
– Create its own opportunities
